Olufunke Akindele-Bello popularly known as Jenifa is a Nollywood actress, producer and script writer. She was one of the star in the sitcom ‘I need to know”. She is a popular and well recognized actress in both the Nollywood and Yoruba movie Industry. She has over 150 movies to her credit as actress, writer and producer. Early Life and Personality
Funke Akindele popularly known as Jenifa was born on August 24, 1977 in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria. She was the second child of the three children of the family (two girls and a boy). She grew up in a family where they are neither poor nor rich, her father was a retired principal while her mother was a medical doctor. She obtained her Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Mass Communication at the Ogun State Polytechnic now known as Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ogun state. She later got a law degree from the University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba.
Funke Akindele’s Marriage
Funke like every other celebrities had a colorful marriage in 2012 with Kehinde Oloyede Adeola but the marriage after a year did not flourish as expected due to the fact the it was revealed that he is unfaithful in the marriage by having children out of wedlock which led to their divorce in 2013, a year after their marriage. Funke added that she was abused in the marriage and didn’t have any other choice than to quit
She however, gave love a second chance when she met Abdul Rasheed Bello , popularly known as JJC Skillz, a popular Nigerian Rapper based in the United Kingdom. They finally tied the knot and the secret wedding took place at London in May, 2016. News spread that she gave birth to a set of twins in London, after she debunked the news in 2017.
The veteran actress writes on her Instagram post on January 4, 2019 “Glory to God”. She reportedly gives birth to set of twins in December, 2018. Following a safe delivery, she bless God on her Instagram page with a worship session.
A prophet had earlier gave a revelation that the star actress is likely not to give birth but when the good news came in December, it was a destiny turn around for the actress and she blessed God with song of praise and worship.
Funke Akindele came into the limelight after featuring in United Nations population fund sitcom titled ‘I need to know’ (1998-2002). She played the role of an intelligent, curious secondary school girl, Bisi who wants to know more about everything. She was later introduced into the Yoruba movie scene and became a star that every producer and director want to work with. She started producing movies and her writing skills makes her exceptional among her peers. Her productions include Taiwo Taiwo, Ekuro, Ojo Ketala and others.
Her big break came when she released a movie titled ‘ Jenifa’ in 2009. Jenifa is a story of a village girl who had the opportunity to gain admission in the University and was trying to catch up with the campus life, she had to blend despite her bad use of English. The movie Jenifa won her two prestigious awards in 2009 which includes the best actress leading role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards and best actress at the Nigeria Entertainment awards in 2009. After the success of Jenifa, she released another blockbuster movie titled “Omo Ghetto” and “Return of Jenifa” whuch featured Nigerian RnB super star “Banky W” and other hip hop stars. Funke Akindele-Bello has then featured in over 200 Nollywood movies and still counting.
She was rumored to be featured and get her Hollywood debut in the Marvel’s Infinity war but her name was replaced by a fellow popular actress in the Nollywood, Genevieve Nnaji with Akindele’s upload shown to have been a hack. In February 2018, It was reported that the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has advised the Marvel Studios to featured Funke Akindele in the Infinity War movie.
She is one of the richest and influential actress in Nigeria. She has also worked in a TV station before she faced her acting career squarely. She is the founder and director of Scene One Productions.
The Creation of Jenifa’s Diary
With the success of “Jenifa the Movie”, Funke created a television comedy series titled “Jenifa’s Diary”. The series currently has 15 seasons and it is active and ongoing on major TV stations across the country. The series debut Olayode Juliana (played Toyo baby as Jenifa;s friend) and featured award winning Nigerian rapper, Folarin Falana (Falz) as Jenifa’s husband, Lolo of Wazobia fm as Adaku and host of other Nollywood stars.
She also started an entertainment series titled “Industreet” which is currently at the 3rd season.
She runs a Charity Organization named as ‘The Jenifa Foundation’ in helping and assisting the poor and less privileged.
